"Place, Space, and Time!"
Robert Kirkendall

For Free Fall Baltimore, Make Studio is pleased to present Place, Space, and Time, an exhibition featuring the work of guest artist Robert Kirkendall.

Kirkendall, a self-taught artist well-known locally for his whimsical and elaborate constructions, often made of “cast-off” materials, will show a selection of his recent 2- and 3-D works. These will be the centerpiece of a display of mixed media pieces by Make Studio artists, inspired by some of Kirkendall’s signature pieces, which resemble houses, churches, or other structures, and convey themes of nostalgia through evocative mash-ups of newsprint, drawings, magazine images, and found objects such as clocks, toys, and even wax fruit.

On October 8th, with additional unconventional materials and activities provided by SCRAP Baltimore, Kirkendall will co-lead an all ages and abilities workshop. Participants will sample various approaches to using mixed media in order to create relief and fully 3-D sculptural works, in which they can practice embracing the "anything goes" approach to sculpture! All necessary materials will be provided.

RSVPs are STRONGLY encouraged -- be sure to click the ticket link.

Place, Space, and Time will be on view through October.
Thanks to BOPA and BGE for their support of this event!

Dancing Across the Repertoire

Aimee and Dasha met at Make Studio in early 2015. Ever since then, they have been enjoying an artistic camaraderie, based in shared sensibilities and their appreciation of being "the women", as they cheerfully put it, on their studio day. Engaging in a visual volleying, as each blends their respective, favored realms of fantasy subjects, they ground tactile surfaces such as patterned and textured papers and fabrics. Both develop novel characters and dynamic, intricate narratives with more than a bit of humor to them.

On view during our open hours (TUE - SAT) and by appointment through 10/3.

We had such a blast last year, we've made this an annual event! Debuting to a sold-out crowd last summer, this year's Schwingo will again be a spin on the typical Bingo. Make Studio and local artists have teamed up to offer art prizes!

Doors open at 5 with DJ Redlocks' music and Slainte on Wheels with delicious food available for sale. Then, bingo begins at 6. The "Ambassador of Hampden," Lou Catelli will be our celebrity caller, amongst surprise guests.

All proceeds will directly benefit the programming at Make Studio, including our studio program for emerging adult artists with disabilities and inclusive arts activities for all.

Tickets are required and may be available at the door. But that's only if we don't sell out in advance, so don't wait too long to get yours! Presale tickets available here.
