An exhibition for the Artscape Gallery Network, In & Out the Window: Promise Land showcases a collaboration between Make Studio artists and Madeline Becker, to whom "the result is a piece that is far more joyful, energetic, and lively than anything I could have imagined. The Make Studio artists' spirit formed an environment that became 'Promise Land'."

On display in our gallery will also be large scuptural works by Becker and a selection of recent Make Studio artists' work.

The exhibition runs from July 28 - August 11. The reception on August 4 coincides with First Fridays in Hampden and is free and open to the public.

About Madeline Becker:
Becker is a freelance videographer, editor, and sculptor living and working in Baltimore City. Originally from Cincinnati, she moved to Baltimore to study painting and video I film at MICA. Her interest in light as a medium and as metaphor drives her video and
sculpture work.

This event -- we're calling it a "mini festival" -- coincides with the BIG festival of HONFEST a few blocks away, and celebrates both our neighborhood and the "unveiling" of our new building signage.

We'll be offering hands-on art activities, including demos of traditional hand-lettering techniques, the opening of an exhibition featuring work by the participants of our recent workshops for young people, musical performances, and refreshments.

Drop by at your convenience and stay for as long as you'd like to join the fun! We're also pleased to partner with the Artscape Gallery Network, kicking off this year's season with a party at Fleckenstein Gallery next door from 5-8PM!

This event made possible by the MECU of Baltimore Neighborhood Events grants program, and the Hampden Community Council.

In recognition of Autism Acceptance and Awareness Month and National Poetry Month, Make Studio is pleased to present SAY What!?

Works featured in SAY What!? celebrate different forms of communication, and range from text-based artworks sprinkled with poetry, to chronological remembrances of celebrities’ famous roles. During the opening reception, poets and other wordsmiths from amongst the autism community will perform their written work. Through the exhibition and the evening of readings and performances, we will celebrate the many ways – visual, spoken, written, through movement – that our community communicates.
On view through the end of April, open to visitors during Make Studio’s weekday hours or by appointment.
